Google Business Profile Optimisation Checklist
A field-tested checklist covering categories, services, photos, posts, Q&A, attributes and the mistakes that get UK profiles suspended.
Updated 18 September 2026
Why UK profiles get suspended in 2026, the evidence Google expects, and how to write an appeal that gets reinstated first time.
A suspended Google Business Profile means the pin, the reviews, the calls and the directions all stop, usually with an email that says only that the profile "was suspended for violating the guidelines". This is what causes it, what the two kinds of suspension mean, and how to write a reinstatement request that gets approved first time. We handle these every month; the pattern is consistent.
Soft: the profile still appears on Maps and Search, but you have lost access to manage it. Typically triggered by an edit that made Google want to re-verify — a name, address or category change, or a new manager. Usually fixed by re-verifying.
Hard: the profile has been removed from Maps and Search entirely, reviews included. Google believes the business is ineligible or is breaking the rules. Needs a reinstatement request with evidence.
Appealing without fixing the problem produces a rejection or a second suspension weeks later. Work through:
Google's reviewers want to see that the business exists, at that address, under that name, doing what the categories say. Assemble before submitting:
Combine into one PDF, name the files sensibly, blank out nothing that proves the point.
Use the reinstatement form from the Business Profile help centre. Keep it short and factual. A structure that works:
Business: [name] at [address]. Suspended on [date].
We believe the suspension was caused by [the cause you identified], which we have corrected on [date] by [what you did].
The business is a [category] operating from these premises since [year], where customers visit during our stated hours / we serve customers at their locations from this base.
Attached: [list of documents]. We have no other profiles for this business. Please review and reinstate.
Do not argue that the policy is unfair, do not mention losing revenue, do not submit multiple requests — one open request at a time, or the queue resets.
First response typically within a week; reinstatement one to three weeks. If rejected, Google usually asks for more evidence — provide exactly what is asked. If rejected a second time with a final decision, the profile was probably ineligible from the start; the route then is to establish genuine eligibility (a real premises, a real service-area setup) and create a compliant profile afresh, disclosing the history.
